Channeling Fandom…

My name is Jo, and I run a small non-profit called Cancer Gets Lost that hosts charity auctions featuring rare & signed pop culture collectibles, donating 100% of all auction proceeds to a different cancer charity every year –

Javier Grillo-Marxuach is a good friend of mine. He was one of the seaQuest writers back in the day, and kindly donated many items for CGL to auction off, given that CGL is not on Facebook, I really appreciate you offering to share photos and details on the fan page for when the time comes!

For a myriad of reasons, unfortunately CGL is not able to ship internationally this year. So hopefully if fans abroad want to bid in the auction, they have a friend or family member in the US that would be willing to hold on to items for them. I realize that it limits the reach of the auction, but it is out of my hands, and luckily we have raised many thousands for cancer charities regardless.

Details:
Cancer Gets Lost 2026 Online Charity Auction
April 25 – May 2
Open to those with US shipping addresses
Featuring rare and signed pop culture collectibles
100% of ALL auction proceeds are being donated the Breast Cancer Research Foundation

About CGL:
Cancer Gets Lost is a 501c3-sponsored organization (via a fiscal sponsorship from FJC: A Foundation of Philanthropic Funds) that raises money for various cancer charities via online and live auctions of rare and autographed pop culture collectibles. CGL designates a different cancer charity to receive 100% of all auction proceeds every year! CGL’s auctions include items from 25-50 different TV shows and films, as well as music and more! All auction items are kindly donated by fans, actors, producers, writers, crew, etc. Thus far, CGL has raised and then donated over $500,000 to a wide variety of cancer charities!

I fund and run CGL myself, and manage all aspects unsalaried, as a full time volunteer. This is a true labor of love that sparks great joy, as it is a tremendous honor to be able to make an impactful difference for cancer survivors and their families –

A Model, Captain?

Currently on offer from noted auctioneer’s Julien*s, these two spectacular lots from seaQuest go under the hammer on 12th-14th of July.  Registration for the ‘Hollywood Legends, Danger, Disaster & Disco’ is open now and bids can be placed in advance.

The below descriptions omit that the seaQuest model was sculpted by John Eaves and though some casts were made, painted and mounted on a stand with Brass plaque (see the unfinished one from the VAULT collection here) for set dressing – ultimately none were visible in the show.

Meanwhile, the Dickies shirt – pertaining to be worn by Michael Ironside – is curiously lacking the Captain’s trident collar patches and correct triangle shoulder patch.  Though the shirt is obviously production made/used, the rank is in fact Lieutenant and unfortunately the handwritten details are inconclusive as to who may actually have worn it on screen…

DESCRIPTION

A resin model of the seaQuest Deep Submergence Vehicle 4600 with an accompanying plaque featuring in-world specifications and details, from the science-fiction television series seaQuest DSV (NBC, 1993 – 1996).

Please note that this piece contains wear and damage including the model being separated from the plaque, the small frame adornments around the holes that hold the model in the plaque have also been separated, and one of the back fins of the model has been chipped off.

Overall: 5 x 18 x 3 inches

Sci-Fi

Estimate:

$200

DESCRIPTION

A shirt for Michael Ironside as Captain Oliver Hudson from the production of the science fiction television series seaQuest DSV (NBC, 1993 – 1996).

The shirt is comprised of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. It contains a Dickies brand tag that lists the dimensions as 16-16 1/2 x 35. The Dickies tag features illegible handwriting in black marker. The collar of the shirt features two patches, as does both shoulders. The shoulder patches feature two different UEO (United Earth Oceans Organization) insignias.

Ironside joined the series for its third and final season, partially taking over as a quasi-lead of the show after the departure of the show’s previous lead Roy Scheider, who had conflicts with the show’s producers and only appeared in a few episodes of season three.

Eaves Dropping…

We interrupt our regular programming to bring you this latest addition to the VAULT.  Bill Warren’s Starlog coverage will resume in the next post (featuring an interview with everybody’s favourite Security Chief!) but as you will see, this revelation was too good to wait –

‘seaQuest 4600’ Production-Made Submarine Maquette from ‘seaQuest DSV’ (1993 – ’95)

Finely detailed ‘Desktop model’ made from resin (approx. 15 1/2″ long) sculpted by John Eaves.  Several of these casts were apparently made by the art department during the first season for set dressing, most notably for Captain Nathan Bridger’s (Roy Scheider) quarters.  This particular cast comes from the estate of Michael Moore and is in unfinished condition, with several chips and spots of red filler throughout the underside of the hull.  Two small magnets are also present for mounting onto a stand (finished versions featured a wooden base with a detailed brass plaque) and the model is coated with a dark grey textured paint.  The unique design of seaQuest was finalised by James Lima, who coined the new aesthetic of ‘Nautical Nouveau’ after several more conventional proposals for the exterior of the Sub had been rejected.
